So... my blinker stuck on this weekend

Signaled to make a right turn, then made the turn. And my blinker didn't turn off. So I tapped the stalk, still didn't turn the blinker off. At the end of a very short block I turned left. The right blinker still didn't turn off. If I held the stalk left then the blinkers would stay off but it wouldn't signal left and as soon as I let go of the stalk it would start signalling right again. Even after parking and running in to the hardware store it didn't reset when I turned the truck back on. So I dropped it off at the dealer to get some new wiring smoke installed under warranty. Apparently Lucas consulted on the 2011 F-150 because the only problems I've had with it have been electrical.

It's the anti-bmw

I'm gonna guess Flasher Relay failure first, turn signal stalk module/failure second

I'm pretty sure it just needs more wiring harness smoke.

My guess would be signal stalk failure or software glitch. It has the weird blinker stalk that returns to center after you turn the blinkers instead of staying up for right. The blinker was flashing normally and all the bulbs were lighting, so that makes me think it isn't the relay. Plus the fact that turning the wheel either way wouldn't make it reset makes me lean towards either the stalk being bad or a software glitch. Or maybe the steering wheel position sensor. Either way, it is still under warranty for a few more days so the dealer can deal with it.

It still stems from when Ford owned Land Rover, Lucas infected them.

There are three things that annoy me more than people who don't signal:

1. People who drive too slowly.

2. People who drive too quickly.

3. People who signal wrong.

It can be the only reason. I've had both front door speakers replaced and one of the door wiring harnesses. Now this. Clearly the insulation lets too much of the wiring smoke leak out.

You're out of blinker fluid. Pour some on the stalk and it should start working again.

Yeah, that was me on Saturday. Just cruising around with my right blinker on. Felt like a complete dumbass even though there was nothing I could do about it. And when I looked at pulling the blinker fuse, that also runs the brake lights so I couldn't do that either.

I have nightmares about stuff like that. It's made worse by living in roundabout country: a lot of people, while perfectly capable of using roundabouts, don't seem to know how to - or simply don't bother to - signal appropriately on them. I don't mind the non-signallers, but the idiots who signal to keep going around when they're pulling off just annoy the crap out of me.

I didn't even think to check the blinker fluid. Is there a dipstick for that somewhere?

That is part of why I don't like auto-blinkers. I'll take my manual one any day.

Sounds like a relay failure to me, but I don't know a whole lot about how the new F bodies are done noawadays.

It has the weird blinker stalk that returns to center after you turn the blinkers instead of staying up for right.

If I'm understanding you correctly its weird for it to return to center after the turn? Every car I have driven does this.....

No. As soon as you let go of the blinker stalk it returns to center. Say you're turning left. Push the stalk all the way down and let go. It returns to center but the left blinker stays on until you make a left turn.

I see you got a new bottle of blinker fluid there! Don't forget to flush the flasher!

I've seen these installed as an alternative to OEM replacement a few times - the PO's were either too cheap and/or too lazy to procure the direct replacement parts.

i was too cheap, and i mounted it under/behind the dash.

I was pretty damn close to doing that in my old Voyager - the left turn signal only worked in a very narrow temperature range (!), and the right turn signal only worked sporadically.

I'm not even sure they test for that at local DMV - no-one here knows what they are either!

Besides, when it gets to -35 to-40C, there ain't no fucking way I'm opening the goddamn window, and since a portion of last weekend was -61C (with windchill factored in), my employers were lucky that I have a powerful need to eat and pay rent, otherwise I would not have even left the house.
